In this ten-second video, a squirrel begins to climb a small birch tree, then returns to the ground in the forests of Petra, Maine. Petra, which cannot be found on a map, is located in the St. John Valley of Maine's Aroostook County, in the extreme northern part of the state, near the Canadian border.

Other than some flying insects, I don't see anything in this ten-second video, but I could be missing it.

The camera that I use is a tree-mounted, Primos Truth Cam 35, which will take either video or still photography, triggered by a combination of body heat and movement. This reduces the number of empty shots from wind blowing the branches of a tree. Often, I have to watch a clip a few times in order to find the animal, and sometimes I don't find anything. In this one, all that I can find is a bunch of butterflies, moths or other flying insects to the left of the brush pile.

In this short video, you will the a bird in the lower right part of the screen. Just beyond the bird, if you look closely, you will see a small squirrel underneath the log. Near the end of the film, the bird appears to see the squirrel as well. Not long ago, the bird had chased the squirrel away.

A small squirrel scurries about, looking for food, in the forests of Petra, Maine. You won't find Petra on a map, but it refers to a one hundred acre plot of land which includes a couple of potato fields, forests and a cedar swamp in extreme northern Maine, within the northern part of the state's northernmost county, Aroostook County. Petra lies within the Saint John Valley, and is near the Canadian border.

After running the squirrel off, the bird seems focused on making sure that the squirrel doesn't return.

Birds and squirrels may not be as exciting as bears but you may enjoy this short video, anyhow. A squirrel is on the ground eating whatever it is that a squirrel finds to eat, when a bird tries to run him off, and succeeds in its second attempt. This camera location is a favorite hangout of a Maine black bear, who does not make an appearance on this day.

The video has been taken by a Primos Truth Cam 35 wildlife camera, which is mounted to a tree. The camera is protected by a rigid metal case, which has come in handy a few times since we have seen that bears and moose are intrigued by the camera, and the bear has attacked it a couple of times and used it as a backcratcher at another time.

With the wildlife camera set up at a place in Petra, Maine that I have come to think of as the black bear's hangout, since I see him here so often, he is elsewhere today. Here, a bird can be seen in the birch tree, later flying off the screen.

It's after three o'clock in the morning, and all that I can make out is an eye shining in the dark, and moving about, on the left part of the screen.
