The Maine black bear is sniffing the ground around a small birch tree in a clearing in the forests of Petra, Maine. If that was a different bear that we saw yesterday, then it would stand to reason that this bear would be awfully interested in the scent, especially since this is mating season for bears. If it is the same bear, as I am inclined to believe, then it might simply be me that he is smelling, although I hadn't been here since he last appeared on camera at this location. The trail that goes to the left of the brush pile leads past my compost area and eventually to a seasonal road that leads through Petra, Maine.
